Travel clothing

Your travel wardrobe is part of the key to a successful vacation - comfort, practicality and quality are all as important as your personal style when it comes to selecting the clothes that you'll be bringing with you. Choose clothes that you know you'll be comfortable in, and when it comes to footwear, make sure your shoes, sandals or boots are broken into prior to your trip - you definitely don't want to be dealing with blisters!

Create your travel wardrobe by using one or two dark, neutral colours for your basic pieces, and build from there with pieces that will mix, match and layer. Clothes that can serve more than one purpose are also key; for example, a pair of long pants that can convert to capris, a skirt that can be worn at different lengths, or for him, a pair of pants that can convert to shorts. Also consider clothes that are reversible - TravelSmith offers a number of these. All of these types of items will allow you to build different outfits using the same piece.

Choose clothes that suit your personal style - if you look good you'll feel good, too! And remember to always wear clothes that are culturally appropriate - that way you won't offend the locals and you might even blend in with them!

Choose pieces that have at least some of the following properties:

1) lightweight
2) quick drying
3) stain resistant
4) wrinkle resistant
5) some impermeability
6) sturdy
7) strong, secure fasteners and    zippers
8) security pockets (hidden pockets)
The Tilley hat not only provides protection from the sun, but is also sturdy and water-repellant.

My favourite travel skirt is the Macabi - it's quick-drying, sturdy, wrinkle resistant and has water repellant properties. It features a security pocket and two deep, oversized pockets. Various snaps, fasteners and a clip allow you to wear it at different lengths and to convert it to shorts or Moroccan-style pants within seconds.

The Macabi Skirt can take you from wading in the morning to fine dining in the evening - a truly versatile skirt!

The Contourwear Travel Vest is sturdy, quick-drying, wrinkle resistant and has water-repellant properties. It can be worn as a vest or as a sleeveless blouse. The black and khaki vests come with hidden pockets.
