Being organized is crucial to trip planning, and having a good packing list will ensure that you have your travel essentials with you - everything from laptops and toiletries to travel wallets and alarm clocks needs to be thought of well ahead of time.

Of course, one key decision you need to make before you even start packing is what type of luggage you're going to use. Do you want to use a backpack or do you prefer to wheel your luggage? I used to like using a backpack, but now find that I prefer a carry-on suitcase with wheels and a collapsable handle. Whichever type you choose, make sure it is of good quality (look for 10 to 15 year guarantees) and your luggage will last for several extended trips.

Keeping your money, credit cards, and passport safe, along with plane tickets and important phone numbers, is critical to your peace of mind. There are several types of money belts, one of them being a regular belt with a hidden inside zipper to store bills (paper currency). If you purchase one with a plastic buckle, you won't have to take it off to go through airport security. I use one made by Eagle Creek.

The other types of money belts are designed to hold your passport, credit cards, money, phone numbers, etc. There are three main types: 1) worn around your waist, 2) around your leg, and 3) around your neck. A fourth option for women is to wear a bra money pouch on those occasions when you won't need access to your extra money. You may want to use a combination of tools; for example, a regular belt with a hidden zipper and the security pockets in your travel clothing.
