European Low-Cost Airlines
There are over 100 low-cost European airlines that offer inexpensive fares as an alternative to rail and bus travel. Budget airfares mean that airlines have cut back on other costs. These airlines usually charge for food and beverages. Also, airport fees and taxes are often listed separately. In general, here are a few things that you can expect:
No frills -- No meals, movies or free alcoholic beverages Research the restrictions on carry-on and check-in luggage weight, dimensions and number of bags carefully prior to booking. Luggage allowances vary from one airline to another - you don't want to end up paying more for luggage fees than for your plane ticket! Luggage allowances tend to be lower than with the major airlines. Check the airline's website. Note: If you travel light, the strict luggage allowances won't be an issue. Also, flying out of secondary airports can be an advantage since they are not as crowded.
